Every country has its own unique legends, folktales, epics,
and myths. All of these represent their wide range of diversity. But the most
profound country who gives much emphasis on these legends, folktales, epics,
and myths thingy is no other than us, Filipinos. Here in Philippines, we still
believe on these beliefs and used it not for faith but as guidance in our
process of living.
The Tale of Tonyo the Brave is one of the great myth
happened here in the Philippines. In this tale it depicts not just how
Filipinos lived in the past, but also how brave they are in terms of protecting
their hometown and fellowmen. The story revolves around Tonyo who was known for
being a wimp among his two brothers, Alejandro and Fernando, but despite all
that, he was able to turn the tables and gain the spotlight. In this tale, many
supernatural beings were being mentioned, but the story focuses only in the
mythical creature manlalayug. As what being describe in the story, a manlalayug
is an animal that possesses particular powers that enables her to transform into
a really beautiful adult female who will surely utilize her considerable appeal
to weaken a man’s will. Once an adult male is wholly enraptured by her, she
will wrestle him to the land for she has extraordinary strength, and eat his
internal variety meats. By having that kind of description, I know everyone who
can read this will feel a little scared and might start thinking that its true.
Well don’t worry, because I’m sure it’s not; it’s just a made up story of our
ancestors to entertain people and it depends on the person if he/she will let
this things influence his/her views and perspective in life.
The Tale of Tonyo the Brave is a great story and if you
think that I’m lying, then you better read it yourself and discover its
thrilling and breathtaking plot as how Tonyo the Wimp became Tonyo the Brave. People
might start thinking that these literary works should be forgotten or not
important anymore, but let me tell you this, legends, folktales, epics, and
myths are all lessons and they bear with truth. That’s why no matter how far
our world will go, these works should be preserve and pass by generations to
generations.
